Denise has been a passionate advocate for Fear 2 Freedom since May of 2017; she was first introduced to the organization by her longtime friend, Tricia Russell. As the mother of a sexual assault survivor, Denise felt a deep personal connection to the mission and a strong desire to make a meaningful difference
“I was trying to find ways to help make a difference and prevent that from happening to anyone else,” Denise shares. The concept of prevention lies at the heart of her advocacy. Education and proactive measures are her guiding principles as she strives to create a safer world.
Denise has made a lasting impact on Fear 2 Freedom through her involvement on both the Development and Strategic Committees, as well as her previous term on the Executive Committee. Her dedication and expertise have been invaluable to the organization’s growth and mission.
In 2024, Denise had the opportunity to share her story and experiences at the NOVA Champions Luncheon—a moment she describes as incredibly powerful. “The outpouring of love and support I got after that program, the people who came up to me and said, ‘Wow,’ was so powerful. I had never heard of this through the view of a family member.” Now, Denise finds fulfillment in providing advice and support to other parents navigating similar challenges, offering compassion and understanding while helping them through difficult times.
Looking ahead, Denise envisions Fear 2 Freedom expanding its reach and amplifying its message of prevention. She is particularly passionate about growing the organization’s presence on college campuses and forming partnerships with like-minded groups.
“Seeing us evolve into a focused, professional organization with clear direction, mission, and strategy has been super important,” Denise says, reflecting on her years of involvement. She values the progress Fear 2 Freedom has made and is eager to see it continue on a path of growth and advocacy.
