Write a Personal Note
In each of our iCare and AfterCare Kits we include a personal note of support. These notes help reassure survivors that they are brave and not alone on their journey of healing. Please help a survivor by writing a message of compassion.
Message Guidelines
DOs:
Be authentic and empowering
Acknowledge the strength and bravery it took for them to seek support
Reassure the survivor that they are not alone
Remind the survivor that they are loved
Sign with your first name, or say “a friend” / “a [university] student” / “a fellow survivor” (if applicable)
DON’Ts:
Please do not use faith-based language, including verses or references
to specific deities (God, etc.). Instead you can write things like “Keeping you in my heart” / “Sending healing thoughts”
Avoid using gendered language, as survivors of all genders receive F2F
Kits. Use words like "resilient" / "strong" instead of “beautiful”
Do not diminish their experience and the pain it has caused
(e.g. avoid saying "soon this will be a thing of the past" / “you will heal quickly”)
Don't share personal details about yourself, such as last name or contact info
